I am back with my Friday Favourites, where I round up a list of the shows, products, books, activities and food I’ve been loving recently. I’ll pop any helpful links in here as well where I can – they’re not paid links or ads, so I don’t earn any commission or income for sharing them. But if that ever changes I’ll always let you know out of full transparency on my page.
Shows I’m Watching:
I haven’t watched a lot of tv this week, but here is my list of shows I have really been wanting to start:
- The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives – I’ve seen so many clips of this online, and I can’t wait to binge it when Jamie is away for work this weekend!
- Chimp Crazy – This was created by the same people as Tiger King, and Jamie and I binged Tiger King in two days during the days of lockdown, so I feel like this will just be right up our alley!
- Uglies – This is a show set in the post-apocalyptic dystopian future, where everything is focused around physical beauty. And from what I’ve seen on it so far, things like cosmetic surgery are forced on people at a young age so that everyone ends up looking similar and… “attractive.” (It really doesn’t seem too farfetched as this world’s future, to be quite honest with you). The show is based off a book written in 2005 with the same name, and I’m tossing up whether I buy and read the book first before watching the series, or just watch the series first. (Does anyone else get like this?? I postpone watching things for so long because I want to experience the book version first, and this is why I still haven’t watched Boy Swallows Universe yet).
Products I’m Using:
- La Roche-Posay Athelios Invisible Sunscreen – this is my holy grail sunscreen that I use for my face, neck and chest. I have been using this for over a year now and I haven’t looked back. It has a very lightweight, almost watery consistency which means it absorbs into your skin really quickly, without leaving a sticky, greasy or white film over your face. I also find that it doesn’t clog my pores or cause breakouts either. It’s small and compact to carry around as well, making it easy to reapply throughout the day. I use it religiously, especially being in the very hot and very sunny Central Highlands. You absolutely cannot skip the sunscreen here!
Books I’m Reading:
- Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas – So last week I was just getting started on this book, and admittedly it was pretty average to begin with. The last book Empire of Storms ended so wildly, and this book was so slow to start in comparison. All my favourite characters in the series had also yet to make an appearance. In my head I couldn’t help being frustrated and constantly thinking… where are they now? Are they alive? WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM? Well. Fast forward to this week and I have barely given any of them a second thought because I have been so HOOKED on the current storyline that’s unfolding. Without giving away any spoilers, there has been a sudden reappearance of a character I had forgotten all about. I can’t even remember which book they were in because it was so brief and so many books ago (#throneofglass problems). BUT, the way I gasped at 11pm on Tuesday night when they came back, and I realised they would become a major player in this book… I’m so invested now. And I can’t wait until this long weekend when bedtimes and alarms will be non-existent, and therefore neither will my reading limits.
Activities I’m Doing:
- Gardening – If you already follow me over on Instagram, you will have seen all my stories and posts lately on my gardening adventures. I have ventured into gardening territory many, many times before. But took a break once we moved to the Gold Coast, and left our house in the ‘burbs with it’s big backyard, for an apartment with a small balcony instead. Now that we’re back in a house and I have some space to play with, I am giving it another go! So far, I’ve only got this small stand, filled with herbs, mini beets and lettuce, and a few random little pots with jalapenos, capsicum and a pineapple top that I propagated and brought over from the G.C! I want to eventually expand into some large raised garden beds, but for now this is a nice, gentle way to ease myself back into it!
Food I’m Eating:
- A lot of snack platters – I’m a big fan of throwing together little bits and pieces onto a snack tray and eating them this way. I’ll do this after work, or even on the weekend so I can graze while I’m doing things like gardening or cleaning. It just makes it more fun for me when it’s on a tray, I’m also getting a variety of different foods, and it’s a great way to use up whatever you need to from the fridge/pantry. (Daisy also loves snack platters and stays close by waiting for some cheese).
Things I’m Planning:
- A self care long weekend – I have 4 days off by myself starting from today and while some people might think that’s lonely, I am actually really looking forward to it. I have been feeling a bit tired and run down this week, and I can’t wait to not have any alarms, plans, or socialising to do. I plan to recharge my batteries over the next few days with long walks and brunch dates with my Daisy girl, gym, reading, cooking up delicious meals, long baths and good wine. Absolute bliss!!!
That’s my weekly wrap up in a nutshell! What are you up to this weekend? Are you staying in? Going out? Holidaying somewhere nice? Let me know!
