Delicious, crispy and slightly sticky bite sized pieces of juicy pork belly. It only takes 20 minutes to cook in the air fryer and you can serve it by itself, or with some rice and vegetables for a more well rounded meal!

Ok. I’ve officially reached the “air fryer phase” of my life, and you know what? I’m not mad about it. I will tell anyone and everyone who is willing (and unwilling) about this thing. I love it.

We had actually been talking about getting one for a while and about a year ago when we moved into the house we’re in now, Jamie saw that was someone giving away their relatively unused air fryer on Facebook marketplace. I was a but doubtful at first, but after a good clean and a couple of test runs, it quickly became a household favourite for us.

Now I use it at least 2-3 times a week, and even though it takes up a fairly large space on my tiny bench top, it’s honestly so worthwhile. I re-heat leftovers in there (we don’t have a microwave), and I also cook everything from vegetables, chips, steak, chicken wings, and of course these absolutely delightful pork belly bites.

I’ve seen people cook whole pork belly roasts in their air fryers, but I haven’t been able to master that one just yet unfortunately. That also takes a bit of effort. However, slicing the pork belly into bite sized pieces, tossing it in a quick marinade and throwing that into the air fryer is a much easier alternative, and it’s a foolproof way to enjoy some crispy, juicy pork belly!

RECIPE NOTES:

  • I use pork rashers instead of a whole pork belly for this. Pork rashers are just pork belly cut into thick strips. They’re much easier to prep, and you can purchase them in small amounts which is handy because you only need 500g for this recipe (whereas a whole pork belly is usually 1-2kg).
  • The marinade has Asian flavours but uses very simple and easy to obtain ingredients like soy sauce, oyster sauce, garlic, minced ginger, honey, pepper and onion flakes. You can get all these ingredients at regular supermarkets like Woolworths or Coles. No need to go to an Asian grocery store or specialty shops.
  • I have not tried cooking this in a fry pan instead of the air fryer, so I unfortunately do not have advice on cooking times for this method!
  • You can serve this on it’s own as an entree (you could share this between 3-4 people), or you can turn into a main meal by adding rice/noodles and vegetables (this would then serve 2 people).

Enjoy!

Notes

Serving suggestions: Our favourite way to enjoy this is with jasmine rice and a side of steamed or stir fried vegetables. You can also top noodles or even an Asian style salad with these delicious pork belly bites. You could also serve this on its own as a light entree or side dish for up to 4 people.
