Friday Favourites #1

September 27, 2024

I have been wanting to do a little segment like this on the blog for a while, just as a quick way to share with you all some of things I have been loving lately. I’ll pop any helpful links in here as well where I can – they’re not paid links or ads, so I don’t earn any commission or income for sharing them. But if that ever changes I’ll always let you know out of full transparency on my page.

So without further ado, here is my weekly round up of my favourites!

Shows I’m Watching:

  • The Boys – this has been a favourite of mine and Jamie’s for a couple of years now, but season 4 came out recently on Prime and we just finished it. SO GOOD. If you haven’t watched it before, I would describe it as a dark, satirical kind of spin on the usual American superhero fantasy. It’s hilarious, witty, gory, action-packed and really addictive. It would be like if Guy Ritchie and Stan Lee directed a tv show together. Highly recommend!
  • The Bear – we started this one recently as well, and I have really been enjoying it so far. There is some really fantastic acting in this, and I love that each episode focuses on a different character and their story. It will have you laughing and cheering for their wins and crying for their losses, almost as if you have known them your whole life. Also if you’re a foodie like me, it always inspires me when I see the chefs get inspired on the show. I feel like it’s reigniting my passion for cooking and making me want to get creative in the kitchen again!

Products I’m Using:

  • MooGoo Eczema and Psoriasis Cream – my skin has been playing up so much since we moved in July. I don’t know what it is, but I haven’t had a flare up in years and now since moving, I’ve had really bad eczema on a couple of fingers and across my knuckles. I don’t know if it’s the stress of moving to somewhere new, adjusting to the weather here or a reaction to something I’m using or eating, but it got to the point that it would wake me up constantly in the middle of the night. It’s such a frustrating place to get it as well, you can’t really avoid getting your hands wet constantly or things touching them in day to day life. Then I remembered for previous eczema flares I’ve had, the only non-steroidal cream that was able to give me relief was MooGoo, so I picked some up a couple of weeks ago and started using it again, and it has helped tremendously. The relief is instant, no soreness or itching, and I’ve been able to sleep through the night now which is nice! I’ve also switched up my laundry detergents and hand washes at home to see if that helps, and I’ve been taking magnesium and fish oils religiously for the last few weeks too. I feel like I am finally on the mend now, so fingers crossed!

Books I’m Reading:

  • Sarah J Maas novels – ok, with complete transparency I did take 2-3 month break due to packing/moving/unpacking/settling into new life here in Emerald (a blog post for another day!). But I am back on the SJM train. After reading her ACOTAR series earlier this year, nothing has really compared. That deserves it’s own post as well, because when I tell you it changed my life, it really did. But I did start her Throne of Glass series afterwards, and it has been a little up and down with each book to be honest. Some have been incredible, others only so-so. I started Tower of Dawn this week, which I believe is the second last book in the TOG series and it’s ok so far. It will be hard to top Empire of Storms though (which has been my absolute favourite in the whole series). I’m only 4 chapters in though, so it is early days but recap will come once I’ve finished them all!

Acitvities I’m Doing:

  • A lot of working out, actually. I finally joined a local gym maybe a month ago, and prior to that it had been months since I stepped foot inside one. Getting myself in for that first session was a humbling experience to say the least, but I left with such a feeling of accomplishment. It reminded me why I loved it so much previously. Since that first session back, I’ve been going regularly now, about 3-4 times a week. It has been so nice to carve out space for “me time” again, and I feel like I have been reaping the benefits both physically and mentally. An hour of the day where I can pop my favourite songs on, tune out everything and everyone else around me and just lift some heavy weights. (Ok, they’re not very heavy now, but we’re getting there!). Also if you are looking for a good workout app, I’ve been using the Alive App by Whitney for over a year now. Even after my little hiatus, it made it so easy for me to jump back into things by just choosing an 8 week workout program on there (takes all the thinking out of it for you). The programs are well structured, easy to follow (there are videos for every exercise if you’re a newbie or unsure how to do it), options for home workouts or gym workouts, and every workout session has the option to include warm up and cool down exercises too (which I ALWAYS neglected before getting this app but they truly do make a difference in performance and recovery!).

Food I’m Eating:

  • Home cooked meals, mostly. There are no cafes or restaurants near my work, and only a lunch van that comes round to once a day. The food from the van is ok, but I definitely prefer my own food. I think I’ve purchased lunch once in the time I’ve been here when I forgot my food at home, and the rest of the time I’ve just eaten what I’ve packed. It’s been a godsend on my bank account and my overall health too. (Though there are definitely days I miss the vast amount of pastry shops, pubs and cute restaurants and cafés that were at my disposal when I worked in the big cities!).

Things I’m Planning:

  • Our next overseas holiday! We have booked a trip to Cambodia at the end of the year which we are both so excited for! Jamie has never been, and the only time I’d been was over 10 years ago. I was young and the majority of my time there was spent drinking and partying. I can’t wait to go back now and spend my days trying all the local dishes, wandering the markets, learning more about the Khmer culture and exploring all the beautiful historic sites and natural landmarks. If you have any food/experience recommendations, please let me know!

That’s it for my Friday favourites this week! Let me know if you enjoyed this kind of content from me!
